Discussion:
[Audacity-users] Is there a quick/simple way to change input and output devices?

I'm using a UFO202 USB device with audacity to transfer LPs and
cassettes to digitial.

I had to re-remember a few things (having done some a year or more
ago) but it's mostly come back to me now.

However I'm having a really hard time getting to select and change
input and output devices. When recording I want the UFO202 to be the
input device and then when I'm editing the tracks I want it to be the
output device as I have the amplifier connected to the UFO202 output.

There doesn't seem to be a simple way to change back and forth, I have
to go into Preferences every time which seems wrong somehow.

Am I missing something obvious?

Assuming that you are using the current Audacity 2.1.1 version, you
can select the input and output devices conveniently from the "Device
Toolbar" (see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/device_toolbar.html)

If you are using an old version of Audacity, get the current version
from here: http://web.audacityteam.org/download/

I'm running 2.0.6, the current version for xubuntu 15.10.

Not really a sensible option, I don't want to step out of the 'proper'
way of doing things. Unless, of course, there's a proper audacity
repository for [x]ubuntu that will let me get a newer version.

... and it seems there's a bug in that, which I suspect I may have
been encountering as audacity has crashed a few times.

OK, I've found the PPA, I'm on my way to installing 2.1.1. I'll see
how it goes and come back if I encounter problems.

Thanks!
