And now, I'm getting clicking artifact noises. I'm using an iTrack Solo, with an SM 7A mic. It wasn't on the track at first, but started about 25 seconds into the recording. Nothing has changed in my setup except the mac and the version of Audacity.

Subject: [Audacity-users] Audacity for Mac 2.1.0 on Mac Running 10.11.4 Quits Unexpetedly
Hello, I have recently upgraded to a mac running iOS 10.11.4 (Yosemite). And
also upgraded to Audacity 2.1.0. (My old system ran very well, never
crashed, never quit - but was from 2011 and I had not upgraded it. It was
doing other odd things but not crashing.)
On my first test run, after recording a few seconds and saving the project,
I got a message that another piece of software wanted to upgrade and I said
"yes" as I usually do. Then Audacity quit, and I got a message that it had
"quit unexpectedly" and they did not know why but would send a message about
it to...somewhere.
Does this sort of thing happen often on the news version and if so, what is
the solution? Or was it because of the request to upgrade my other
application while Audacity was open? On my old set-up (a Mac running 10.7.5
Lion and a previous version of Audacity), I would upgrade other apps running
often with no problems whatsoever.
My livelihood is wrapped up in being able to record without losing time and
audio tracks to crashes. I like Audacity very much but should I consider
switching to another application because of this, if it is a known issue? I
did several searches and the most recent was from 2012 and it concerned
crashing on start-up so it was not helpful.
Thank you for listening and for your advice.

Phyllis,

I have answered you on feedback@ but for the benefit of anyone
else using Focusrite products on Mavericks or later I will repeat part
of my answer here.

Yes use the current Audacity 2.1.2 to avoid crashes on Mavericks
and later.

If you have installed the Focusrite USB 2.0 driver, Focusrite
recommend using the Mac built-in USB drivers instead on
Mavericks and later. See:
https://uk.focusrite.com/downloads?product=iTrack+Solo .

If you still get clicky playback or recording after that, the problem
can usually be fixed by opening Audacity's Recording Preferences
and adjusting the "Audio to Buffer" setting which also affects
playback. Reduce the setting to 0 milliseconds. If playback breaks
up or does not start, increase "Audio to Buffer" in increments of
10 milliseconds until playback is smooth.

By the way, OS X 10.11 is El Capitan, not Mavericks, and iOS is
for iPhone and iPad, not Mac computers. But it does not change
the answer. :=)

Thank you very much for your advice for the clicky playback, and for information pertaining to Focusrite equipment. And if all I have to do is upgrade Audacity to fix the crashing problem, I'm on it...right now.
